Re: How to reduce SE .dat & .idx file sizes?
Posted in 1998
We're also running SE-Databases and there is only one way to
downsize the dat
and idx file sizes: unload, drop, load or an
dbexport/dbimport. My solution
for this problem is to do a weekly
dbexport/dbimport in cron.
If
greater/more lecks in your dat / idx files, this will slow down your
performance.
In SE 5.xx an alter index xxx to cluster (and back to not
cluster)
also reduces the file-size.
Alter index xxx to cluster copy yourtable into an "temp" table, then
drops your "old table" and moves the new
temp-table back.
All data in this "new table" will be sortet in index-order.
After altering to cluster you must alter index to not cluster.
If this is
also in SE 7.xx must be improved by you.
Hope, this helps.
