Alex,
No.
The table you're loading into does not have to be empty. I think
the isql load will stop at the first error, due usually to a duplicate
index or column format problem.
Dbload is much slicker and offers many controls, and error logging
if so desired. It will report the problems to the log with the data in
question and gracefully move on. With Dbload, if you're going to be
writing a large number of records, make sure to disable the transaction
log or to make a copy, then zero it out.
BTW, the manual is very helpful about all the features of dbload.
P.S. Sally Woolrich wrote, re dbload:
i) In SE turn of the logging first by updating the 'syslog' row in
systables (so tabtype != 'L') and then run 'dbload'. I don't know if
there is an OL equivalent to this.
ii) In SE & OL drop the indexes (if any), load the data & recreate
the indexes.
iii) In SE & OL ensure that the file being loaded is on a different
device to the table being loaded into, otherwise the heads can fly
many miles, inches, centimetres or whatever in the process.
