Re: Ontape -s : Could not write archive tape

I then tried to copy a file using tar command to the tape; the
ontape -s managed to run successfully;
I guess previously , the tape subsystem still recognize the failed ontape
command. The new tar command reinitialize back the tape ;

Using kill -9 on any job that uses Online is risky. You, maybe, should have
tried the -15 option first !!
I think that the reason it won't archive to tape the second time is that
the
original ontape is still ruinning a thread - you will need to kill the
process off within Informix (using onstat -u to get the thread thats
running
the ontape then use onmode -z or onmode -Z to kill it off )
We had a similar problem, and had to re-initialise the server.
Also, try and investigate further as to why the archive hung in the first
place. Is the TAPESIZE value too big for the tape ? Did anyone pop the tape
out in error ? ( it has been done before, believe me ).
Hope this helps
Sean.
