Informix 7.3 on UnixWare7.1

It appears the Informix has abandoned UnixWare from what I can see. All most all platforms that I have checked out on there web site have a 7.31x port available. Not UnixWare. It still is at 7.30x. I spoke with a VAR a couple of weeks ago and he suggested moving to Linux since Linux is a level 1 port and UW is like 101 out of 100. ;-) The UW 7.30 port was done in Sept of 1998. Its been a year and many other platforms have been upgraded, but not Unixware. I spoke with Informix regarding a port of IDS 2000 to Unixware. All I got was that it was planned. No time frame just it planned. Maybe it will be ready in Sept of 2000. I am sorry but one every 18 - 24 months of patchs/fixes for a platform is not enough. This is not Informix's fault. They are just updating ports that are in demand. I guess Unixware 7.x is not much in demand, since Linux came around. I am now evaluating moving to Linux. -Peter
I am running IDS 7.3 on UW7.0.1 and was going to upgrade to 7.1 (actually already attempted it, but after the upgrade, the system would not re-link the kernel). I wasn't aware that UW7.1 crashed when running IDS7.3. I'm still going to test it, though. I need the better serial port support in 7.1 I have to agree with tqma. . . . and Informix's tech support has told me that there aren't too many customers running on UW. However, with SCO eventually phasing out OSR5, those users will migrate to UW, so Informix will have more users on the UW platform. Unfortunately for us Informix/UW types, Informix ports to the popular platforms first (Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, even Irix), then to SCO. Another interesting spin. . . . . I have installed 4GL-RDS (for OSR5) on my UW7.1 system. It starts up (should, 'cuz SCO claims binary compatibility), but I have not fired up the IDS engine, yet. That will be today. I would have downloaded the UW version of 4GL-RDS, but Informix's/Intraware's web site(s) only had the OSR5 version. I suspect if Informix is using SCO's new SDK, then porting to OSR5 or UW should be relatively straight forward and quick. I'll post again when I find out how IDS 7.3 works on my UW7.1 test system. I'm wondering if the person who was having all of the problems (in June) had completely patched his system. . . . as there have been patch upgrades since.
