Greetings,
Does anyone have experience using ontape -s and ontape -r to "twin" a
database onto new hardware? Specifically, I'm trying to restore a level-0
ontape archive. The archive was made on a Sun 10/512 running Solaris 2.4,
latest patches, OnLine 7.10UD1. I'm trying to restore onto a Sparcserver
20 with identical software. All dbspaces are raw disk devices, using
identical alias names.
The restore completes without errors on the Sparc-20. However, when I try
oninit -s, I get "Fatal error initializing shared memory." The logfilesays nothing constructive, and no errors appear in syslog -- the database
simply won't come up.
Informix tells me that this "isn't supported." How, I rejoin, are we
supposed to do disaster recovery? If my Sparc-10 is struck by lightning,
I'm extremely unlikely to restore to another Sparc-10, since they're no
longer being made. Has anyone done this successfully, or run into this
problem?
Advance thanks! If there's interest, I'll post a summary of Informix's
eventual response.
