A DBSPACE can be larger than 32GB, however, a tablespace or fragment is limited to 32GB and you cannot create multiple table fragments on a single DBSPACE. (Although with detached indexes you can take advantage of larger dbspaces reserved for a single table.) > 3. Is it possible to create more than one chunk on a raw device ? Yes as long as the offset + size of the chunks does not pass the 2GB limit. This is imposed because Informix must be portable and many UNIXs still do not support the extended lseek/fseek functions and lseek and fseek themselves are limited to 2GB addressing. > We had created 3GB of raw partition each for data and index dbspaces on two > disks. No, you will not be able to use the 3rd GB on any raw device for Informix. You should repartition the drives/arrays and restore the database to the new raw devices so you do not waste that space. If you have used soft links for you chunk device names this will be a cinch. Art S. Kagel
