Re: Undocummented: SET ISOLATION TO DIRTY READ
Posted in 1994
SET ISOLATION TO affects the level of isolation of a process while itretrieves rows. Isolation is the opposite of concurrency. Here is a short
and rough description of the different levels of isolation:
DIRTY READ acquires no locks (minimum isolation).
COMMITTED READ insures that rows are committed.
CURSOR STABILITY locks the current row in a transaction.
REPEATABLE READ locks every row in a transaction (maximum isolation).
How you apply these levels is basically a judgement call. My guess for the
reason you haven't found any mention of this in your manuals is you are
using the Standard Engine, which can only employ DIRTY READ isolation. The
OnLine Engine gives you this control, among other things.
I hope this helped.
