OK. I did this - well I TRIED to - and now I get an error saying
"failed dependencies
... libgcc_s.so.1
But I have this
find / -name libgcc_s.so.1
/lib/libgcc_s.so.1
/lib64/libgcc_s.so.1
and my ld.conf.so has the paths for there

I thought I'd screwed up. But I'm building another RHEL AS 4 Upgrade 3
server and exactly the same thing happened as my original problem - a
libstdcc error. It's fixed by removing the compatability libraries then
reinstalling them with the 64-bit option. Thuis is necessary even though we
had chosen the 64-bit installation at RHEL install time. I conclue that
this is a bug in the RHEL install script.
Once that hurdle is overcome it's then necessary to o the same - uninstall
and reinstall - the libaio library with the 64-bit option before kaio will
run.
