INFORMIX-HyperScript Tools >How, Why and When are these products best utilized? Wingz is a spreadsheet product that became HyperScript tools. Its principal platforms were Unix (OpenLook and Motif), Windows and Macintosh. As implied in the last statement, HyperScript Tools is a superset of Wingz. The original product was a spreadsheet that contained a graphical, event driven programming language called HyperScript. When it became obvious that a lot of our customers were creating applications that had very little to do with spreadsheets other than as a repository of data from a database, it made sense to upgrade the spreadsheet by enhancing the HyperScript language and including a lot of new features: embedded SQL, a dialog box, menu, help, portfolio, and script building tools, and release it as a new product. When customers build applications using HST, they are typically database front ends. HST is appropriate for data analysis systems (EIS, most typically) although some light data entry can be accomplished. (If you need heavy duty data entry, try NewEra.) Users have the ability to query through some custom application, and display data both textually and graphically. Recent applications I've been involved in have been trouble analysis at a major telco, labor budgeting at a grocery chain, fiscal analysis at a restuarant chain, and others like that. >We would like to utilize these new products on individual PC's. >If anyone of you have experience and/or more information on these products it >would be a great help to our office. Hopefully, this has been of help. I generally try not to sound like an advertisement for Informix in posts like this, but sometimes it is tough not to. If you have any specific questions, please don't hesitate to drop me an email or post.
