Report writer for distributed databases?

We need an ad hoc report writer which can query more than one Informix database at a time. There are several products out there which work quite nicely for one database per report, but we are in a distributed database environment and would like to find a product, or work around. One avenue we have explored is the use of synonyms, and views of the synonyms to present the distributed database as though it were a series of tables/views in one database. We have run into practical problems of data access in our tests with IQ report writer product. Has anyone used FourGenReport or WindReport with multiple Informix databases?
