668: System command cannot be executed
Posted in 2004
Topics: Stored Procedures & SPL, Platform-Specific Issues
Hi All,
We are using HP-UX 11i in Trusted Computer Base setup with Informix IDS =
9.4(FC4).
=20
All the while, our application stored procedures were behaving properly =
and getting executed in an orderly manner. We did some changes to file =
permissions and restarted informix and after that we started getting the =
following error:
=20
668: system command cannot be executed.
1: Not owner
=20
We get this error, when any user other than informix or root executes a =
stored procedure that uses the "system" command. Also, now the statement =
"set DEBUG" also throws error. We have checked thoroughly and there is =
no problem with permission where debug files should be created.
=20
These errors do not show up when we execute the same procedure using =
informix or root user id. It only shows when we execute the stored =
procedure using any other users.
=20
Following is one of the sample stored proc script:
*************************************************************************=
*************************
drop procedure th_test;=20
create procedure th_test(theNo smallint) returning smallint=20
=20
=20
--let theCMD =3D 'echo "Good for nothing" > thTest.log';
-- Following statement will throw error
system 'echo "Good for nothing" > thTest.log';
=20
return 0;
=20
end procedure
*************************************************************************=
*************************
=20
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx.
This really helped. We took out a copy of our backuped files and
compared the informix file permissions with the existing ones.
Some of the files in $INFORMIXDIR/bin had "informix" as owner whereas it
should have been "root". After changing these file permissions/ownership
and restarting informix, the problem disappears.
Regards,
Rohit

Looks like someone mucked with the permissions of the oninit task.
There's a file in $INFORMIXDIR/etc with the correct perms for all
installed files. Otherwise reinstall.
