Info about "npused" bug

Dear Informix Experts, the infamous "npused" bug has been discussed in this group a lot, but I never cared because I thought that I'd never be affected. Well, I was wrong :-( I now have a couple of tables in several databases (Online 5.03UC1 on a SNI RM400-10 under SINIX 5.42B0033) where systables.npused < 0. I was sure I'd find more info about this in the FAQ, but there isn't any reference to "npused". What are the ramifications of negative entries in this field? How can I ensure that the correct number of pages used is entered on "UPDATE STATISTICS"? Why isn't this in the FAQ?
