It does not lock systables it has locked the systables record for the table that is locked in exclusive mode. It makes sense to me to disallow the modification of a table that is locked. Post the specific problem that this is causing you. Someone may have a workaround for you. Please everyone note that while it is important to post the specific circumstances you are experiencing it is ALMOST ALWAYS productive to also post the problem caused or the original problem statement that the SQL was trying to support. Then someone may recognize a better way to do what you want to do that avoids the trouble that prompted the post. Even when we can give you a specific solution, there may be a better way that cannot be seen without more information.
