Re: IDS 2000 SOFTWARE

Mostly an off-topic flame exchange rather than a technical thread. It spins off from a complaint that Informix ships its downloads only in CPIO format (and a user's talk of moving to Oracle), with a QueriX representative pitching their Informix-4GL-compatible compiler as a way to switch databases without losing 4GL code. The rest is bickering over Usenet etiquette (80-column line wrapping, which the vendor agreed to observe), whether QueriX really supports recent Linux releases (the site said "Red Hat 5.0 and above"), and Informix's attitude to customers. No technical problem is actually resolved.

And a $.02 worth of advise use a proper email with word-wrap. Just a word. MANY of us use mailers that do NOT support word wrap. In addition, at home I REFUSE to downgrade from DOS6/Win31 to DOS7/Win9x and I cannot always boot into Linux (the kids use the machine too so I sometimes get only a few minutes at the keyboard) so I am stuck using Netscape 3.x which while it wordwraps on the screen if I print a message out it truncates at 80 columns. Why not just be considerate and a) shrink your window, b) turn OFF wordwrap in you own mailer as a reminder, and c) make a point, as I do, to manually add a newline to EVERY line you enter into a posting. I realize that you probably post even more than I do but you'll survive. Art S. Kagel

Hey Alan, ( colonel panic ) Don't you think you've worn this one out??? :-) After all Mehdi was talking to *me* originally, then you piped up with your rant about their website. I didn't find his postings to be of any problem, more amusing than anything, and certainly he was simply offering a solution to a perceived problem. Sure it's a bit of enterprise, but Informix software as a general rule costs money too. How much more mileage can you really get out of it??? I have found over the years that companies like QuerieX exist precisely to meet the needs of Informix users and customers BECAUSE OF problems with Informix, most notably ATTITUDE problems that have resulted in customer demands not being met. Hat's off to QuerieX and all the rest. When Informix gets a clue and decides to get competitive with their products again, you'll have less time to chat here. By the way we're all waiting for the next download announcement--we really like 'em announced from Russia! :-) Tim Colonel Panic wrote: > > In article <3832BA00.6803A5E9@querix.com>, > QueriX 4GL / Mehdi <mehdi@querix.com> wrote: > >Read your statement quoted from QueriX site. > >RedHat Linux 5.0 and "above" > > Which confirms exactly what I wrote: > > >> >> You should TALK? It was precisely the ATTITUDE of Informix towards my customers who had paid good money to Informix and were not getting any attention which initiated QueriX. Aw Tim, Come on, admit it, you really love Informix. Only someone you love could make you this crazy over something which qualifies as "molehill" in the grand scheme of things. * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet's Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet - Free!
