Replication technology - AIX to Windows
Dear All, I am using IDS 11.5 on AIX 5.3 in RS 6000 Platform. How do we setup a Replication at technology in - AIX to Windows. Windows server is located in a separate location. Thanks Sams
Sams As usual, it depends on whether you are looking at the entire database or a subset of tables/columns/rows. What is your target database, Informix or $Q! $erver (wash my mouth out). For a $Q! $erver target: Triggers, linked servers and timed scripts are cumbersome but effective if you can afford a time delay between updates and are short of cash. If you have money available them CDC is reliable, resilient and easier to setup and configure. There is a third method using a IBM product to make a $Q! $erver database 'look like' an Infomrix database but it has disadvantages from both the above with no advantages (and I can't remember the name of it :-) ). If your target is an Informix database then Enterprise Replication is the obvious solution, it can operate across differing infomrix versions and differing operating systems and is easy to understand and setup and is reliable and resiliant. Informix can replicate between different platforms, but only using Enterprise Replication. Read the Enterprise Replication Guide to see who to set that up. I would strongly recommend that you upgrade to v11.70 or better 12.10 so that you can use the newer technology to make the setup easier. However, your AIX version is older and I do not think that it is supported by the newer Informix releases. Art Art S. If you update AIX 5.3 to ml12 or later you can install 11.7, 12.1 is not an option at AIX 5.3 you need AIX6.
