You now have a classic client/server setup. No reason to suspect any
data integrity problems (unless your network starts throwing wobblies).
Working like this 'out of the box' has been available in IDS since v7,
and at v5 with a minor addon.
You can get maximum benefit fro your hardware by tuning each box to its
role. Linux as a db server with lots of memory for the engine, and the
SCO box as an app server. Slight admin overhead but better performance.

Since I can't get linux-abi to work to run SCO binaries on Linux, I've
decided to just move the Informix SE database over to Linux and keep
the Informix 4GL programs on the SCO box. I got this working simply by
setting the following:
on the SCO box
INFORMIXSERVER=linuxserver
DBPATH=/path-on-linux-box-to-database:/path-on-SCO-to-4ge-programs
I then added an entry in the sqlhosts file on SCO
linuxserver setlitcp linuxserver sqlexec
Added an entry for the SCO box to /etc/hosts.equiv on the Linux box.
And of cource installed the Linux port of Informix SE on the Linux box.
Is there anything wrong with accessing the database remotely this way,
it works, but I just want to make sure I won't have any data integrity
problems with this setup. I'm surprised it didn't require any
additional software for the remote connection.
