Re: SIS: Talk about a shift in partners...

Not a technical problem thread at all — it's an industry/business discussion. It starts from news that Oracle was certifying PeopleSoft Financials on Informix IDS 11.1/11.5, then turns into argument over whether Oracle's sales reps would ever recommend IDS instead of Oracle for PeopleSoft, whether buying PeopleSoft/JD Edwards was anti-competitive, and why SAP and Lawson dropped IDS support. It degenerates quickly into personal attacks, sock-puppet accusations, offshoring jokes and credential-waving. No technical question is posed and no resolution is recorded.

That is using one market to get leverage in another and surely anti- competitive for a company the size of oracle especially as they then dropped Informix as a supported database for peoplesoft? How was Oracle allowed to buy peoplesoft, jd edwards?
> From: david@smooth1.co.uk> > How was Oracle allowed to buy peoplesoft, jd edwards? Because there are competitors like SAP, BAAN, LAWSON, etc ... And the action of SAP and LAWSON dropping IDS support is independent of Oracle's actions and outside of their control. _________________________________________________________________ Talk to your Yahoo! Do the peoplesoft sales team recommend oracle as the primary database to go with peoplesoft? After all it is the same company so why would they want the revenue to go elsewhere?

Most likely. After all, customers worry about choosing a platform that will be supported in future releases. Since Oracle owns Peoplesoft, its logical that the rep will push Oracle as the base database, unless of course the customer is a DB2 shop, then you go with what the customer knows.

Gumball - I was a question: 1. how long did you work at IBM? 2. how long did you work at Informix? Which all this knowledge of how IBM and Informix do business in industry, I think it must be long time? Splintter

LOL Dude, I've spent enough time in both to know how they operate. And unlike an IT Specialist, I owned paper.

In SQL it would be something like
SELECT it_worker , cost, developing_nation
from offshore
where cost < usa_worker
and professional_service_margin > 50
and rape_customer = 'Y'
and offshore_exploitation_potential in ( 'HIGH' , 'EXPLOSIVE' , 'WET DREAM' )
and software_project like "O%"
and ( h1b_papers_completed = 'Y' or l1_papers = 'Y' )
order by cost, developing_nation

I'm surprised that Morgan the ACE Director hasn't been along to tell us
about Dice and Oracle jobs yet. Did you know that ACE Directors sign up
to be an official Oracle shill? It does rather call "academic
impartiality" into question.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/community/oracle_ace/index.html says:
"Oracle ACE Directors work more closely and formally with Oracle in
terms of their community activity."
I did read the entire website and didn't find any requirement for
pompousness. That must be Daniel's own contribution.

Splintter, You come here "claiming to be 'new to Informix from Oracle'" yet you're not anything of the sort. You're an old sock puppet. Seems that you're only here to troll and bring conversations down to the gutter. Perhaps that the only paper you use, if you can swipe one from the work site's porta-pottie without anyone looking. Unfortunately that gutter trash talk may play well with your fellow crack heads, but not hear. For those who grok IBM S&D, owning paper means that you've written the contract and "own" the contract. You are also usually the point person on the Seibel entry for that deal. Since you want to know... I didn't keep track of all the deals that I was responsible for writing. I believe I wrote more that $12 million dollars in services deals, conservatively. Closer to 15+ million, and then there were deals that I wrote that were extended past the time I left. Definitely a couple of million since they were either multi-million dollar contracts or relationships with GSI partners that I helped to create. Now that was the services contract revenue. I don't know if I could count up the millions of dollars of deals where lab services were used to cement the DW and Hardware sales...(Cross sell/upsell) And my numbers don't inlcude the 5 million dollar multi-year services deal which Steve Mills personally discounted to well below cost to close a major deal in Brooklyn. (So even if it wasn't discounted, I wasn't going to see a dime of rev rec because we are comp'd on accrued revenue only.) How many people here can say that? Stu? Ron? maybe. That was in a short timeframe, with 2 managers who screwed the team. We only had one good manager. And for those first three years, under that manager, I exceeded quota. So yeah, I know what I'm talking about when it comes to working with BCS/IGS, Client Reps, SSRs, and Pillar Specialty reps. IT Specialists? They just focus on the products only. They don't worry about how the deal gets done. They don't have to worry about protecting the brand. I just wonder which is smaller, the pea brain in your head, or the mass of what one could call your 'twigs and berries'? L8r doode PS. Long enough that what I saw disgusted me. Don't get me wrong. There are people who care about the quality of their work. But they are in the minority. That's why a lot of senior partners from PWC took the money and ran when they could. -G > From: splintter@ymail.com > Subject: Re: SIS: Talk about a shift in partners... > Date: Mon, 25 Aug 2008 18:16:55 -0700 > To: informix-list@iiug.org > > On Aug 25, 9:05 pm, Ian Michael Gumby <im_gu...@hotmail.com> wrote: > > On Aug 25, 7:46 pm, splint...@ymail.com wrote: > > > > > > > > > On Aug 25, 6:32 pm, Ian Michael Gumby <im_gu...@hotmail.com> wrote: > > > > > > On Aug 25, 4:31 pm, "da...@smooth1.co.uk" <da...@smooth1.co.uk> wrote: > > > > > > > Do the peoplesoft sales team recommend oracle as the primary database > > > > > to go with peoplesoft? > > > > > > > After all it is the same company so why would they want the revenue to > > > > > go elsewhere? > > > > > > Most likely.
