In the short term, and not very beautifully, find the lines that look like: .P The extension commands are: .HS .HI "INFO BASETABLES" .br prints the information about the base tables in the database. .HI "INFO SYNONYMS" .br prints the names of any synonyms in the database. Change the .br lines into .sp lines. It looks better, but more spaced out, if you also add a '.sp' before each .HI line. In the medium term, I'll try to work out why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2008.0513 -- http://dbi.perl.org/ "Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused." The file in question is sqlcmd.1. I've no idea which emailer doubled up the dots in the 'troff' example source which was carefully indented four spaces to avoid having things mess it up. It was also single spaced. Isn't modern technology wonderful. I can actually read the man page now. Thanks! I couldn't figure out where to look for documentation about all of those formatting macros. Do you know if there's a man page (or anything) that explains this particular variant of nroff/troff/whatever is is? eric
On Solaris, you can use "man -s 5 man" to find out about the macros. I found that using 'nroff -man sqlcmd.1 | more' gave me correctly formatted output, but using 'man sqlcmd' gave the erroneously formatted output. I do not have an explanation for that at all.
