Hi. We are setting up a new database. We previously used MS Access, but we want something better. What would be a good choice for a company with 300 employees from: MS SQL SERVER Oracle Sybase MySQL Paradox
> What would be a good choice for a company with 300 employees from: > > MS SQL SERVER > Oracle > Sybase > MySQL > Paradox Any of these DBs could be used. Each one has its own good and bad points. I think you will ned to give many more details to get a good response. Why did you post this to rec.woodworking? I have removed this group thinking it was an error! Cheers Stu
Paradox is a file server based database so it's probably not appropriate if you want 'something better' than Access. I don't have any first hand experience with MySQL so I can't comment on that one. Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and Sybase are all good client-server DBMSs and can easily handle your needs. The best choice is fairly subjective and you can search Google to find may flame wars on the subject. In my experience, Microsoft SQL Server is the easiest to use and performs very well. I have to admit I'm somewhat biased, though. I suggest you download the eval versions of the databases and kick the tires. -- Hope this helps. Use Sybase : If you are looking for cheap, unix support , medium functionality & management RDBMS. Use Oracle : If you are looking for really Heavy usage & support.
