You are trying to compile with the libc5 version of ESQL/C and SE on a glibc (libc6) machine. You can now get a glibc version from Informix also (the RedHat version). In the meantime edit $INFORMIXDIR/bin/esql and comment out the -lcrypt there. See the Linux FAQ at the IIUG WEB site for more details. Art S. Kagel
