To add to what Joe said, many of the ODBC drivers available nowdays
equal or even outperform native drivers. Powerbuilder's native Informix
interface has in the past been a rough ride. (I kept up with Powerbuilder
from sometime around release 2.0 to 4.0x.)
The one "gotcha" I've seen myself with ODBC is the difficulty in getting
information about serial numbers. This may not be a big concern to you. I
don't know how Powerbuilder handles its SQL; you may be able to use the
dbinfo() Informix 7 function.
Of the environments I've seen, I know that Visual Basic database controls
massacre the database connection to the extent that dbinfo() usually isn't
available. (Actually, unless you're using the ODBC API directly, I've never
seen a case where it is available, but I'm not a VB expert and try not to be.
