CDR and re-sync

I'm exploring different methods for sync'ing (or resync'ing) a CDR participant. Assuming a live production system, how best to perform an initial synchronization? I know TFM suggests using unloads or HPL, but how practical can this be when your have a 125+ GB database?? Can you sync using archive tapes, and if so, how did you do this? I'd like to hear from anyone who has traveled this road. I'm about to start down it, and would appreciate any advice.
