Backup using NTbackup/Services not starting

From: Cor Kooter (E-mail: bik@intrabouw.nl) Hi, 1. Can anyone inform me of the consequences of using NT-Backup for backing up an Informix Database? 2. Does anyone have a solution for my services-problem? On our system (Windows NT4.0 SP3), we run Baan IV under Informix 7.02. Every night we make a backup of the whole system, using a batch file, that: -stops the relevant Baan IV services -stops the Informix Services -does the NTbackup command, backing up all disks -starts the Informix Services (at least tries to) -starts the Baan IV services The problem I have (always), is that one of the Informix Services (the Online Dynamic Server) does not start. The batchfile looks like this: *********************************************** net stop baanlicencing bet stop baanlogicservice net stop baansharedmemory net stop online net stop serveragent ntbackup backup c: e: etc. net start serveragent net start online net start baansharedmemory net start baanlogicservice net start baanlicencing *********************************************** There are three services running normally: INFORMIX Online Dynamic Server INFORMIX Online Message Server INFORMIX Online Server Agent I also tried to do the net stop and net start commands with the full name of the services in quotes (""), but that didn't help. The only solution is to reboot the machine in the morning. What might cause the service to fail starting up

Most important Service for you is the "INFORMIX Online Dynamic Server".
I dont know if Baan uses one of the two others.
The Serveragent is used by the graphical tools like Command Center.
This is the database Process. in most cases Informix has to be started by
the user informix. Could you check which user runs the batch File ?
Maybe it helps to add this User to the Informixgroup !
Login as this User and try your net start Command( net start online ).
Use Command Line Interface, start 'onstat -' what does it say ?
