You don't say which OS, but if your talking Informix on UNIX, then anything's possible!

You can edit a file with the '.sql' suffix and execute it as follows:
dbaccess database script
OR
isql database script if you have Informix-SQL
In fact the file need not have the '.sql' suffix:
dbaccess database <script
Or you can make use of UNIX and try:
dbaccess database <<-!
your sql commands
!
Remember, syntax checking only occurs when you type the '!'.
