Is there any way to determine ahead of time what other views will get dropped? Cathy Geier/Nwc 06/29/2004 06:48 PM To cars-tech@lists.jenzabar.net cc informix-list@iiug.org Subject Dropping views and dependencies - OUCH I just discovered that if I drop a view to recreate it; any dependent views that use it also get dropped. What was Informix thinking on this one??????? Wasn't there some way around this? OUCH OUCH OUCH (But it's a good thing I have the code to recreate them, whew!) yes - the engine needs to know this too, so it's recorded in a system table.
I just don't recall which ones...
select tabname from systables where tabid < 100 and tabtype = "T"
will tell you all the names of the system tables. Study a few that "sound"
likely.
Note that only systables contains the table name. All other tables will
contain the tabid integer. Therefore you need to find the tabid of your view
with
select tabid from systables where tabname = "myview"
and then you can poke around looking for that number and you'll be able to
piece it all together. Don't forget recursion...
