Informix/HP-UX upgrade question

Well, we're finally getting ready to upgrade the O/S on our production systems, and I have a couple of questions. First, the environment - DSA 7.10.UC2 (I know, I know, but it keeps running), HP-UX 9.04. We're upgrading to 7.23.UC1 and 10.20. Prior to the upgrade, I plan on taking two ontape backups (because I'm paranoid). The questions revolve around the HP-UX portion. First, I believe someone last week recommended performing a cold install of HP-UX, rather than upgrading. Why? Second, if a cold install is performed, then I'm assuming that the current LVM configuration will be lost, thus we would have to re-create the logical volumes in the same sizes and create the appropriate links, then do a full restore of the database. Is this correct? If so, it will add many hours to the upgrade process. I'd appreciate any comments from people who have performed a similar upgrade.
