Surprisingly, perhaps, I'm going to say that Informix is a good bet. :-) You can guess this by the number of cellular companies that use Informix on the backend. (Of course some people use Oracle as well.) I think the more interesting decision is going to be the hardware. You're a little bit out of the PC market here... :-) SGI Origin 2000, HP V-class, Sun Starfire E10000, IBM SP/2. Nothing else springs to mind. Unless you (gasp!) go for a mainframe. Best you benchmark... >My first thought was Oracle, but after doing some research on Web, it >seems like that a lot of people prefer Informix over Oracle. Lots of people who actually use the software prefer Informix over Oracle. Suits tend to prefer Oracle because it's a safe bet. You only other option is IBM's DB/2. >Which would you choose (or may be there are some other databases that I >am not aware of that would suit better for this project) - no Sybase or >MS Sql-Server, >sorry to people who like them??? It's OK, they probably quite used to it. :-) I would be quite happy to plump for Informix, running on an SGI O2000. But I *am* biased... :-) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
