Among the documentation you got from Infromix, Inc. shoudl have been a manual entitled: "Using Triggers: Informix Databas Server enhancement." If you look on page 1-14 you will see an example for creating triggers and stored procedures. As long as you run the dbaccessdemo5 script you will be able to use the example to verify for yourself that triggers do exist in 5.x.
