I used Digital Unix machines, the 200 and 1000 models. These are the numbers I got: Inserts into db / sec script.sql sqlproc/net sqlproc/shm esqlc/net esqlc/shm Machine/Conf 200/rootdbs 25 55 200/logdbs 285 303 185 204 1000/rootdbs 476 769 250 476 1000/logdbs 800 1000 540 540 All these numbers are from a 'client' process running on the server. However the column 'esqlc/net' reflects well the performance as seen from a PC-client, the numbers get 10-15% lower, which I assume was due to the network. The major performance booster for me, except better hardware of course, was to put the logical log on a separate physical disc, as indicated by (logdbs) in the table above. I did not try using raw partitions or kernel aio, doing so presumably increase performance. If you find some other parameter to tweak that will significantly increase performance for this 'insert case', please tell! /Johan -- ________________________________________________________________________ | >>> The opinions herein are mine and not neccessarily my employers <<< | | Johan Andersson, Msc CSE jna@carmenta.se | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
