The simplest way to do this is to create a shell script like so:
#!/bin/ksh
export INFORMIXSERVER=servername
export ONCONFIG=onconfigFileName
export INFORMIXDIR=informixdir
export PATH=$INFORMIXDIR/bin:$PATH
ontape -s -L 0 <<!
!
and then put this job in your crontabs file to be executed at a
specified time by cron. Make sure there is a writable tape in your
tape drive pointed to by the environment variable TAPEDEV.
Alternatively, you could decide to dump your backup to disk. I have a
shell script in the IIUG archives called IDBB.sh you may want to look
at. Since I have multiple instances here, I have a file that specifies
the backup schedule for each instance. I do the ontape backups to disk
and pipe the backup through gzip to conserve disk space. If there are
errors in the backup, the script sends me a email so I can look at it
the next day.

Hello,
I need to run an unattended Level 0 backup via the "ontape -s -L 0"
command.
Does anyone know how, or has anyone already done this? If so, could you
point me in the right direction as I am new to Informix and databases in
general? Any help is appreciated.
