Data Replication .....

We are trying to setup data replication between two sparc systems running Online 7.10 over a slow link (56KB) between New York & Hong Kong. What happens is that the primary server locks up from time to time which I presume is due to the log writes ( we are using unbuffered logging on the primary ). Is the solution to go to buffered logging :-( or does replication just not work over a slow link. In general it is a pain to set up, but we need to maintain our DB in multiple sites and I would rather not go to a third party solution. Any help would be great .....
