Outer Join Bug (was It's Incredible)
Posted in 1995
Hi Bob. I am not sure the exact nature of the Outer Join bug but under another thread recently (Oracle vs. Informix article 17644) it was stated and confirmed by two Informix users that under certain circumstances the Outer Join will exclude records which should appear in the result set. Since Outer Join semantics is not always clear I would be interested in getting further information about this problem, particularly from Informix. Hope this helps. Regards, Rich The amazing OUTER JOIN bug is so serious that I can't believe people just take it in their stride. Someone said - it is core code & probably will never be fixed - b-locks - we pay a lot of money for SQl - fix it. I'm sorry but I have no simpathy INFORMIX shpuld sort out MAJOR problems like this !!!! I have wriiten 200,000 lines of INFORMIX code & half (estimate) of my time has been spent getting around INFORMIX 4GL & SQL bugs. >>Anyone had similar experience.
