You won't see a reduction in size unless you are INCREASING your fill factor. Each node is still a page, but the fill factor indicates how much of each node to fill, thus how much space to leave for expansion without the need to split nodes. You would only expect to see an improvement in performance if your index was growing initially. After the nodes are 100% full, normal rules apply for node splitting.
