Technically, Informix is way ahead of its competition. But they can't sell or market for beans. That's how stupid rumours like this get started and stay alive. There is a large and devoted bunch of geeks out there who love the technology. (I'm one of them.) The integration with ERP packages is just as good as anything else. The only place Informix falls down is in marketing. And they fall down really badly there. Just remember though, this is my opinion. And opinions are like assholes.... :-) Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
I don't agree 100%. From the engine side of things, I'd say Informix is tops, but when it comes to RAD tools and connectivity, I think Oracle is probably better. I _still_ have trouble getting CLI/ODBC connections from PCs to Informix to work properly on the first try. (Once you get them set up, it's fine, but it's very cryptic -- not something Joe User would ever be able to figure out). As far as raw performance, and ease of administration on the engine side, Informix is outstanding, though.
