I'm not sure if I understand your question, but each server instance is completely independent of any other. Each has it's own chunks and it's own SMI tables that are contained in it's chunks. When the chunks are gone, everything for that database server instance is gone, including the SMI tables. Are you confusing a database with a database server instance? Basically, many databases can be contained in a single server instance. > 2. We're running ESQL/C programs from a Sun > Solaris machine connecting to another Sun > running Informix ODS 7.1. This is convenient because a unix user does not have to supply a password twice (once to log into unix and once into the database). However, you can connect to the database as a different user with the CONNECT statement and supplying the password (RTFM). The unix password file is used for authentication. So, in your web case and the nobody user, you would require the user to fill a form with a proper user id and password, which would then be used in an esql/c connect statement to the database. > If true, this is going to be painful > in a Web environment because the Web server > usually runs under the nobody user. No more pain than with Oracle and Sybase. Just supply the user and password in the connect statement. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- John H.
