Hello -- Does anyone have experience with the Galaxy hotel system? http://www.galaxyhotelsystems.com/ I need help in creating an ODBC connection with its Informix database, so I can link its tables in ACCESS 2003. I have successfully created ODBC connections with MS SQL Server and Oracle, but have failed with Informix. Does Informix install a driver I should use? Can someone tell me what to look for? The Galaxy vendor is protective of related documentation and secretive in general. Thanks for any help. Larry Mehl
Hi Larry. You install Informix-Connect. Then Click ODBC-Datasource. Select IBM INFORMIX ODBC DRIVER. You can link table via MS-ACCESS. I am assuming that you have successfull installation of IBM Informix CSDK (ODBC is part of it). Since you haven't specified CSDK version I am assuming you are using latest version CSDK 2.90.TC5. In order to create ODBC connection with MS-Access first you need to create ODBC DSN(make sure you also test the connection in the safe side by going to "Connection" Tab and clicking on "Apply and Test Connection") and then go to MS-Access, Go to File->Open-> from the new window at the bottom for "Files of type" option choose "ODBC Databases()". Once you select this it will open two windows, one with the "Select Data Source" in that window go to "Machine Data Source" tab and choose the DSN one which you created. This will connect you to IDS server and will display list of all the tables for your database. In case you don't have CSDK Installed ..you can get the same from the following link (see the bottom right of this link "Informix CSDK downloads"). http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/informix/tools/csdk/ HTH ...
