Folks, I've been to a New Era pilot training course up in Seattle, and I was quite impressed with the product. It does everything the other front ends do, and it's performance is quite impressive. Some of the major benefits I see to this product are: 1) great performance with use of C/C++ and compiles into Windows DLLs, your powerbuilders and the like are interpreted, and are very slooowwww. 2) object oriented. I'm new to OO, so I don't know all of the benefits yet, but it looks good. 3) it will talk to most databases through the ODBC class library. 4) minimal coding required to write data entry screens. 5) during the 4 day class, not one student's PC locked up with errors, so memory management looks fairly good, and it appears to be a much more mature product than it actually is. In reality, Informix has been working on this product for 3-4 years, maybe more? A lot of the folks at Informix don't know much about the product yet, so don't put too much in a comment made by an Informix rep who might not have ever even looked at the product. There are some minor things with New Era that aren't quite there, but for the most part, when the DDE/OLE/partitioning class libraries/ functionality come out, I think you will find it is a viable technology. I will be preparing a customer demo with it in the next few weeks, so I am either crazy, or itis a good product!! Pat Binkley Asix, Inc. Seattle, WA pat.binkley@asix.com "I don't have a fancy quote."
