Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
User running IDS on Linux under the 'informix' user could not authenticate with login/password credentials in dbaccess or JDBC, but it worked when starting the server as root. Art Kagel identified the issue: oninit needed to be owned by root with group informix and have SUID/GUID bits set (rwsr-wr-- permissions) to function properly.

I have a rather specific problem:
I have set up and intitialized IDS under user 'informix'. Now, when i
start the server ('oninit' at the prompt) it comes up with out anyh
problems, but:
- if run dbaccess and try to connect my server, and i specify login and
password, the server replys that the password is not valid for the
server, which is not true. I general, i can not make any connection to
the server if i specify login and password. That makes my JDBC code
pretty useless ( unless someone can tell me how to connect to the
database with JDBC without login and password)
but,
- if i start the server as 'root', then everything works! - i can run
dbaccess and connect as using valid login and password.
If you have any clue what i am talking about, or if you have ideas how
to help me, please let me know.
Thank you in advance,

Sounds like your installation is incomplete. The oninit should be
owned by root and group informix and have the SUID and GUID bits set so
that permissions look like this:
-rwsr-wr-- 1 root informix ....

Dear Informixers,
I'm new to Informix 4GL (on Linux) and I have troubles contacting databases,
which I have not created in the same 4GL-program.
The error code tells me to run the utilty prog FGLSCHEMA, which is almost a
dummy Shell-Skript but starts SCHEMA.4GL (compiled of course). From the
source of SCHEMA.4GL I can see, that it queries the databases I need and
prepares some text-files the compiler (FGL2C) seems to need to obtain
information about the tables in that given database. The "LIKE" statement
(define a var LIKE one in a table colum) is affected by that.
Given:
$schema.4ge psy
it should produce some file psy.sch (and others) with details for FGL2C- and
FGLFORM- compilers.
Unfortunately FGLSCHEMA or better SCHEMA(.exe) fails always (The given *.42m
and the freshly compiled EXE) with some error message I do not understand.
Could someone please help me out there?
Did someone run FGLSCHEMA "dbname" successfully on Linux?
What am I doing wrong? Is there a running version? A workaround?
Since this is so fundmental (contaction a table of a database) I hope it is
my configuration problem and some of you guys can help me?
Thanks a lot
Kai Schmidt
