4GL for Windows from Windows 3.11 to 95: SE4.0 PC does not work.
Posted in 1997
Has anyone find the way to use Informix 4GL for Windows (originally targeted for Windows 3.x) on Windows 95 with local SE engine? When I start SE 4.0 from DOS in autoexec, win 95 starts to load and after a while I get this message: "A TSR caused windows to load an incompatible version of the DOS/16m interface module. Removing that TSR might make it possible to run windows." I-Net v4 works fine when loaded before w95, but I need local engine also. I have tried to use SE v6 that comes with NewEra 2.x, (which works through I-NET with pipe protocol) but it seems that they use a different method of communicating with the app. (can somebody confirm this ?). Interesting is that I can simultaneously use I-net 4 with 4GL and I-net 32- bit 5.01.TC1G2 with ESQL/c from NT WGS package. In NOTEINET.501 I have found this : 4.10 INET PC ---------------- Application -> LDLLSQLW.DLL -> REMSQL.EXE (TSR) -> Network Driver (TSR) 5.01 INET for Windows --------------------------- Application -> ISQLI501.dll -> WINETMAN.DLL -> INETWSOK.DLL ->Vendor's WINSOCK.DLL -> Network Driver (TSR or DLL) This is interesting, because I have found that 5.01 have also installed LDLLSQLW.DLL which is very small, as if it is used for some very simple task, maybe to pipe input to ISQLI501.DLL for compatibility with older apps? In manual there is a mention of INET 5.01 compatibility with HyperScript Tools V 1.0x, ViewPoint 1.0 and Informix-DBA 1.0x, and all of them used to work with SE 4.0 PC. I'm doing this under assumption that if I can make Windows 4GL talk with I-Net 5.01, I can also use SE 6.0 by specifying hostname LOCAL in SETNET. Converting 4GL code to (xyz) is not an option. Boss rules. Anyway, does anybody uses 4GL for Windows any more? Have You folks find any better way to stay on 4Gl code and do windows? Thanks to anybody who wishes to reply, Andrej. PS. Nils, we know that U "wouldn't thouch that". We also know that that You'd "convert your application to NewEra." Also we know that "NewEra is dead". #include<std.disclaimer.h> **************************************************************** * Andrej Falout, RDBMS R&D, Croatia, Europe, afalout@zg.tel.hr * *--------------------------------------------------------------* * If you can read, You can do it ! * ****************************************************************
