I presume you are running Digital UNIXF on your Alpha server defunct or zombie processes are processes that have been orphaned and cannot send a "death of child" signal back to the parent since the init process should inherit the child processes of processes that have died or been prematurely terminated I would guess that the parent process is ignoring signals from the child. This could be either a bug in Informix, a bug in digital UNIX or a bug in your code. If you are using code that you have written, make sure that the parent process is not ignoring the death of child signal. "J.
