Warm restore - without logs online 6.0
Posted in 1995
We are converting from SE 4.0 to Online 6.0. Our system has 15 major databases using
about 8 gigs of disk. Transactions are not used.
Currently an unattended backup is done daily during off-hours. If a problem develops with
a particular database we restore the files for only that database. The types of problems we
recover from are users running wrong jobs, program errors.
For online we were planning on putting each major database in a seperate dbspace. We
would do an unattended level 0 archive daily using ontape (got info on how to do this from
FAQ, thanks). To restore a particular database, we would do a warm restore of the particular
dbspace. We can not apply the logs to the dbspace since the level 0 archive. We can't do a
cold restore because it will restore all databases.
When we try to do a warm restore using ontape without applying the logs, the dbspace is
marked as in recovery and is unavailable.
Does anybody have any help or ideas on how we can restore one database relatively quickly?
Thanks in advance.
