This one is for a friend. She's been trying to use dbload (under 4GL RDS 4.00
the interpretted version) to load a an ascii file containing variable length
data records into a simple database. The file contains lines of the form:
f1|f2|f3|f4|
f1|f2|f3|f4|
f1|f2|f3|f4|
...
She's built a command file which contains:
FILE "table1.new" DELIMITER "|" 4 ;
insert into table1 ;
Which is exactly as is described in Appendix E of Volume 2 of the reference
manual. running dbload on this with the command line,
dbload -d database -c cmdfile -l err
(I think those are the flags, anyway, you give the file, the database and an
error log file) produces nothing but a message saying that a file command
must be the first command in the command file. I've checked the manual for
her and can see nothing wrong. She's placed a call to informix but alas got
told "all our soFtware engineers are busy" so I thought I'd post here
since no doubt someone has tried this and perhaps even figured out what
the magic incantation should be.
-thanks in advance
