To find status of transaction logging for a db
Posted in 2008
Topics: Transactions, Locking & Isolation
Hi! I am currently evaluating both "Informix IDS & connect". Created a default database "stores_demo" by running the batch script that came along with the Informix - IDS trail version. stores_demo or any db is created with transaction logging capability by defau;t ? otherwise in Informix, how to find whether a db is configured/created with transaction logging. Thanks in advance. regards, Srinivas Jaltaru
Hi,
You can create a database in four different logging modes. These are: no
logging, unbuffered logging, buffered logging, ansi compatible
The demo database creation has a command line switch -log to enable
logging (unbuffered).
The logging mode can be set in the create database statement (or in
dbaccess as a menu choice).
Create database [name] [in dbspace] [with [[buffered] log] || [log mode
ansi]]
The actual logging status can easily be retrieved in the onmonitor tool
(status->databases). Alternatively, you can query sysmaster database for
the logging status. The information is in sysdatabases.

No. The default is unlogged (ie no multi-statement transaction
support). Determine logging status of a database:
SELECT * FROM sysmaster:sysdatabases WHERE name = 'mydatabase';
If you can't run this while connected to your database that's a good
sign it's not logged. But you can connect to sysmaster and run it anyway.
