Re: no working ISA on RHEL3?
Posted in 2004
Problem: on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, the ISA (Informix Server Administrator) shipped with IDS 9.40.UC4 J/Foundation wouldn't work — the bundled JRE 1.2.2 failed to load (missing library function), and the installer rejected RHEL3's IBM 1.4.2 JRE because it hard-codes acceptable Java versions. The poster found UC5 listed on Passport Advantage but not actually downloadable. He solved it himself: unpack isa.1.50.UC2.cpio, patch sbin/configure to also accept 'version "1.4"' (and update the message string in strings.pm), repack, then install IDS and answer the JRE prompt with /etc/alternatives/jre_ibm/bin after installing the java-1.4.2-ibm RPM from the Extras disc. No vendor fix was reported; the rest of the thread is grumbling about IBM.

Well, it looks like UC5 is finally up on Passport Advantage, but after clicking through the "I Agree", it's isn't to be found amongst the 24 9.40's there to download!! Ok, while waiting for IBM to really make UC5 available (and not having any hope that they've fixed the ISA jserv install problem), I managed to get ISA's jserv to install with a patch. When installing IDS J/Foundation, you have to unpack isa.1.50.UC2.cpio, apply the following patch, and pack it back up before running ids_install. On RHEL3, you'll have to answer the JRE question with the path "/etc/alternatives/jre_ibm/bin", so make sure you've installed the java-1.4.2-ibm-1.4.2.0-1jpp_8rh rpm from the Extras disc before installing IDS. diff -Naur isa.1.50.UC2/sbin/configure isa.1.50.UC2x/sbin/configure --- isa.1.50.UC2/sbin/configure 2003-10-10 08:33:10.000000000 -0700 +++ isa.1.50.UC2x/sbin/configure 2004-10-01 00:59:51.000000000 -0700 @@ -1561,6 +1561,7 @@ return 1 if $line =~ m/version "1\\.3/; return 1 if $line =~ m/version "JavaVM-1\\.3/; # HP & SGI JDK 1.3 return 1 if $line =~ m/version "JavaVM-Beta-1\\.3/; # SGI JDK 1.3 Beta + return 1 if $line =~ m/version "1\\.4/; chomp $line; print sprintf $strings::BAD_JAVA, $java, $strings::GOOD_JAVA_VERS; diff -Naur isa.1.50.UC2/sbin/strings.pm isa.1.50.UC2x/sbin/strings.pm --- isa.1.50.UC2/sbin/strings.pm 2003-10-10 08:33:10.000000000 -0700 +++ isa.1.50.UC2x/sbin/strings.pm 2004-10-01 00:59:51.000000000 -0700 @@ -86,7 +86,7 @@ $PORT_CHOSEN = "That port is not available.\\n"; $BAD_JAVA = "\\n\\"%s\\" does not appear to be a compatible JRE or is not installed correctly. By hardcoding version numbers in install scripts and pissing off a lot of customers with Passport Advantage, it's fortunate for us that IBM!=Linux. But at least I could fix this problem myself.
