Hi All, I'm in the process of getting an intranet server running and wish to use communicate with an Informix server (DWGS) running on a Sun Solaris server on the same LAN with an Apache server (ver 1.3.9) running on a Linux server whih has been configured with the PHP3 modules built with Informix libraries. My question is has any one done this? That run Apache/PHP3 and connect with a remote instance of Informix. Thanks, Don Bryant

Did that. Used Apache 1.3.6, PHP 3.0.12, Informix Client SDK 2.10.UC2. You will have to install the Informix SDK first, then install and configure apache, then install php (configure with ./configure --with-apache=../apache_1.3.6 --enable-track-vars --with-informix make make install After that you might have to rebuild Apache with --enable-module=headers --activate-module=src/modules/php3/libphp3.a At least that worked for me. Where the Informix database actually resides does not matter as long as you set up your sqlhosts file on the server that runs the PHP scripts correctly. Remeber to put ifxtcp in /etc/services if you want TCP/IP. Bye Frederik -- Frederik Ramm (frederik@remote.org)

The main thing to worry about is ensuring that environment is set correctly for Informix -- especially INFORMIXDIR and INFORMIXSERVER. You may have to use explicit SetEnv (or PassEnv) directives to get it to work -- that would be true of mod_perl and DBI and DBD::Informix, for example. Prime symptoms of getting this wrong would be that nothing works properly when you try to access the database -- either the errors complain about not being able to find locales or messages or ... or you don't get to see any errors at all. Also keep an eye on LD_LIBRARY_PATH and/or ldconfig (check spelling). -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.60 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
Hi Frederick, I've done all of the configuration with Apache and PHP. > Remember to put > ifxtcp in /etc/services if you want TCP/IP. Thanks I didn't know about this although it makes since since you have to have an entry in the services file for Windows clients. Don
Frederik, I was able today to connect to our backend Informix server through a MS Explorer browser from my Windows 98 PC perform a query and display data. The Apache server is running on a Linux 5.2 server using PHP3.x. So this does work if anyone else is interested. Now I can download the Perl mods for DB::Informix and also do CGI. Cool. Thanks for your help. Don
