Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
SMITH JOHN needed a text-format copy of a 300 GB database whose dbexport took 12 to 16 hours, and wanted to run it on the HDR secondary without disturbing replication. Art Kagel recommended his myexport utility in external-table and parallel modes, which is much faster. He then explained the .shar file unpacks by running it with bash or ksh in an empty directory.

Hi to All
Our Production Database is about 300 Go, and beside the ontapes backup we need
the data on text format. There are some huge table (about 200 000 000 rows for
the hugest one), so the dbexport takes time, about 12 hours to 16 hours, of
course we used to did it in Week ends.
Now the users work also in weekends, so i'm thinking to use our HDR server to
do this dbexport, but i know that dbexport locks the database and i guess its
will causes problems with the replication process.
So, is there a way to unload data, as quickly as possible, on a HDR server ?
or any other way ?
Thanks in advance for your usual support.
Use my dbexport replacement utility myexport using the external table and
parallel processing modes, it will be significantly faster than dbexport.

Hello Mr Art
How to extract .shar of your myexport tool
thanks
.shar files are shell archives. You can just run it like a shell script
using either any ksh compatible shell including ksh, pdksh, or bash in an
empty directory and it will unpack itself. It probably has "#!
/usr/bin/ksh" embedded in the first line, but you can either edit it to
change the shell or path or just run it as:
bash ./myexport.shar
