Identifying archive tapes

Is there any way to read the header off of an archive tape, compare it to the data in the archive reserved pages, and determine whether or not a set of (poorly labeled) tapes is indeed a specific archive set ? I had a 6 gig db and wanted to only do a level 1, but a level 1 without the level 0 in hand could jeapordize my career ... I used 'dd if={TAPEDEV} of=tmpfile bs=16k count=16' and read the reserved pages from tape into a file, and while I can make out most of the data, I specificly wanted to be able to read the Time Stamp Archive Began, Logical Log Unique Id, and Logical Log Position, to confirm that it was the current level 0. Of course I gave up and did the level 0, but the question has come up before and I know it will again. Clues, anyone ?
