It would be *much* faster to just DROP the table and then CREATE it again if you know you're going to delete all the records. As to the .idx problem, I'm afraid I can't add anything constructive, I can only agree that it must have been the re-boot seriously corrupting your indexes. FWIW, I remember the older versions of SE had flaky bchecks that you had to run repeatedly to make sure that it actually fixed everything; just running it once was no guarantee that it had actually worked!
