Re: Mirroring - MASSIVE correction!

Pholks, I love finding these things out. As noted in our last episode our incident occured when a script did a chown root on /dev/*. The disk which failed (shared by two engines) - currently we suspect because it was in the middle of a write at the time - WAS NOT MIRRORED AT ALL - either through Informix or through the OS. Therefore my entire previous post relating to mirrors was moot. But then it's been that kind of week. The disks which were mirrored came back up beautifully - and because of the Informix mirroring of the rootdbs's from the 'damaged' disk we were able to recover the engines themselves and just do a restore to get our data back. The single disk which uses OS mirroring (which has only one engine on it) had no problems. On a similar note - in the past Informix mirroring has transparently kept one of our engines up - while the primary kept crashing. The only way we knew that there was a problem were the logfile entries. have a good weekend all j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker | Hewlett Packard, BSMC Boise, Idaho, USA| "Discover America, jparker@hpbs2561.boi.hp.com | Get lost on a rally."
