Yes you can manipulate data in the SQL statement, although I'm not sure what you're trying to do in your example. If the intent is to concatenate fld1 and "Hello" in the third field then just "select fld1, fld2, fld1 || "Hello" from table1" If you wanted the third field called calc-fld then "select fld1, fld2, fld1 || "Hello" calc-fld from table1" If you really wanted to use the plus sign, then this would try to add fld1 and "Hello" and would come up with a numeric value.
